"We cannot fault the level of services provided by Stratus9 Consulting or the client relationship management."

St James CE Primary School is fully appointed with the best fire doors available, but the school hadn’t always had this level of compliance. The main school block was constructed in 1991, with a later extension in 2005.   This meant that the majority of fire doors within the main school block were original and as such well over 25 years old.  In a poor state of repair and beyond their useable life these doors introduced an unacceptable risk to life safety should there be a fire.

Numerous fire door sets were old and worn, ineffective in preventing the spread of fire and would in no way stop a breach into evacuation routes. As well as fire, preventing the spread of smoke and heat is also important when keeping the buildings occupants safe and as is often the case in any building, many of the doors and their seals were damaged and worn resulting in non-compliance.

With the brand-new fire doors installed, Stratus9 also attended to additional work sealing the compartmentation breaches into protected areas and escape routes by services and piping, as well as installing brand new compartmentation within the ceiling voids where required. The school now benefits from the knowledge that in the event of a fire they are fully compliant with the latest regulations. All designs have been developed in line with BB100, the publication by the Department for children, schools and families 2007- Building Bulleting 100: Design for fire safety in schools and BRE Expert Collection 10 Fire safety in Buildings.
